Frequently Asked Questions

Initially, I would do an introductory call with you to understand what is bringing you to counselling. I would answer any questions you may have and use this as a time for me to explain what I can offer and see if it matches your needs. It is also an opportunity for us both to determine if I am the right counsellor for you. The most important part of any counselling relationship is that we feel like a good fit — that you feel comfortable, understood, and able to be open with me.
I could have all the counselling qualifications in the world, but if you don't feel comfortable with me, it just won't work.

I work as a Person-Centred therapist. This is a non-directive approach where you take the lead. I'm not here to tell you what to do or give advice. Instead, I offer a compassionate space, shaped around you and your needs, where you feel heard and accepted so you can explore what's going on for you at your own pace.

Yes, everything we discuss is strictly confidential. However, there are a number of exceptions to this which are as follows:
if a client discloses risk of serious harm to themselves or others;
if I am required to do so by a court of law;
to prevent or help in the detection of serious crime.
My notes and client contact information are stored in locked cabinets and any information held regarding my clients does not have a name attributed to it.

I make and retain brief notes of our sessions. These are kept securely in a locked filing cabinet or stored digitally on a password-protected, encrypted laptop. These notes will only ever viewed by me.
All record keeping is held in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Full details, including the limited circumstances in which I may need to share information, are set out in my Confidentiality Policy, which I will share with you when our sessions commence.

Life happens, so if a planned session needs to be cancelled, I do ask that at least 48 hours' notice is given. Cancellations can be made via phone or email. There is no charge for sessions cancelled with more than a 48-hour notice period.
Cancellations within a 48-hour time frame will be charged 50% of the session fee at the next planned session, as the session would not be able to be filled by another client

I include some useful links for you to access if you are in crisis or wish to speak to someone straight away. You are not alone. There will always be someone who you can contact.
